March of Witness takes Easter to the City

30.03.2013

Good Friday was commemorated at Birmingham Citadel by a reflective service of readings, music and prayer and then by the first ever Birmingham Citadel Easter March of Witness.

The morning service to remember the events of Good Friday, was led by Majors Peter and Val Mylchreest who are Ministers in The Salvation Army and leading Easter celebrations at Birmingham Citadel throughout the weekend. The story of Easter was presented by remembering the story of Christmas and how a baby who was born in a stable inBethlehemwas led to such a tragic death on a cross. There was focus, too, on the colours of Easter – white, purple and red – and how these could each represent Jesus.

Music was provided by the Birmingham Citadel adult choir (the Songsters), band and junior choir (Singing Company) and helped to portray the message of Easter. Spontaneous readings also helped to focus those present on what Easter may mean for them.

Following the service, the first ever Birmingham Citadel Easter March of Witness took place where the band, choir and members of the congregation marched behind a cross from Birmingham Citadel at St Chads, Queensway, through the city. The march stopped atVictoria Squareand the Bull Ring shopping centre and passed through the High Street andBirmingham’s business district. Shoppers and passers-by were presented with hot cross buns to remind them of the significance of Easter.
