Young People’s Band

The Young People’s Band is a group of Christian musicians aged between seven and 18 who play brass instruments and take part in worship every Sunday.

In 2024 there are over 30 members of the group.

The young people have enjoyed visits to Sunderland, Tunstall, Essington, Mansfield, Wisbech, Consett, Guisborough, Sale, Boston and Stafford Salvation Army, where they presented their music and a Christian message. Each Christmas, the Band takes part in ‘Christmas with The Salvation Army’  in Birmingham.

Rob Hayward, together with his team of leaders –  Matthew Frost and Mark Pearson  – encourage and guide the young people on their Christian journeys.  The band also has a wider support network of people who train, pray for and encourage each member led by former YP Band Leader Keith Watts. Keith’s learners training programme has been so successful it has been adopted by the Music Editorial Team and is available through The Salvation Army Retail outlet SP&S.

The Band recently took part in a concert at Birmingham Citadel with Triumphant Brass and two guest soloists Tom Nielson(Cornet) and Isobel Daws(Trombone).
