Easter in Music

30.03.2013

The story of Easter was told in two contrasting ways during a special Maundy Thursday service at Birmingham Citadel.

The concert began with Birmingham Citadel Band taking the audience on a journey of Easter, using music to illustrate the story of Jesus’ death on the cross to the joyous events of Easter Day when Jesus rose from the dead.

The band presented music such as ‘Green Hill’ – which featured tenor horn soloist Neil Blessett, ‘Written in Red’, ‘The Power of the Cross’ and ‘They Shall Come from the East’. The music gave opportunity for personal reflection of the Easter story and of the significant events that took place.

The second half of the concert featured the ‘Come and Sing’ choir – a group of over 60 people, many of whom were singing at The Salvation Army for the first time. An Easter musical, which included drama, brass and soloists, helped to again illustrate the wondrous story of Easter. As well as featuring new music, some familiar songs such as ‘In Christ Alone’ and ‘Christ the Lord is Risen Today’, helped to unite young and old in this unique celebration.
