Come and Sing Sunday 5th March

05.03.2017

When the Songsters visit another Salvation Army Corps for a weekend one of the highlights is always Come and Sing where an open invitation is given to everyone to join the Songsters to learn two new songs, which will then be performed in the final meeting of that weekend. The event always attracts large numbers and often brings new people in to the building giving the local Corps the opportunity to make links their local community.

Today it was a “home” Come and Sing.

The songsters, our African Praise Choir and our junior choir (Singing Company) met for about 90 minutes to learn some new songs together with Songster Leader Lesley Nicholson leading proceedings assisted on this occasion by Davison Muropa, our African Praise choir leader.

They each taught the group a new song and then Lesley taught an established Songster song to everyone else. While this was taking place our singing company leader Stephanie Lamplough gathered all the children present who were too young to join the senior choir and she taught them a song too.

Following the rehearsal there were a large number of cakes as reward for all the hard work.

The new Come and Sing choir completely filled one side of the hall and sang all of their new songs to the rest of the congregation during the evening meeting.  The children’s choir numbering 20 kids also performed their new song too. We were pleased to welcome back many regulars from our Summer Songsters but there were many new people who joined the rehearsal choir who were visiting for the first time who swelled the numbers to 89 singers and we pray they will want to come back in the future.
