Birmingham Citadel Presents ‘Pictures of Christmas’

11.12.2012

The Salvation Army presented a glittering celebration of Christmas for its 21st carol concert at The Symphony Hall in Birmingham on Sunday 9 December.

Familiar ‘Pictures of Christmas’ – including Father Christmas, Frosty the Snowman and Victorian carol singers – were presented through music, dance, and drama,. The final image was that of a manger, as a reminder that Jesus is the real reason for the Christmas season.

Musicians from The Salvation Army took to the stage for a performance that put audiences from both of the Sunday performances well and truly in the festive mood. Among the highlights, were the youngest members of the Birmingham Salvation Army church who gave their own memorable account of the Christmas story in the nativity.

The Solihull Children’s Chorus and a selection of school choirs from Sandwell sang a selection of Christmas songs inclining ‘Skydiving’, ‘Holy Child’ and ‘Santa is the Man’. There were also several opportunities to join in with well-loved carols throughout the concert.

Leader of The Salvation Army church in Birmingham, Major Steve White, says, “It was fantastic to have the opportunity to once again share the true meaning of Christmas with the people of Birmingham.”

Over £7,000 was raised for The Salvation Army as part of this year’s charity appeal which focused on the organisation’s work with victims of human trafficking.

Advent continues at the Salvation Army Centre in St Chad’s, Queensway on Sundays at 10:30 and 5:00pm.
