Band visits Gainsborough Salvation Army

05.03.2017

On Saturday 4th March at Midday, the band boarded Dean’s Coach and set off to Gainsborough. When they arrived a quick change of clothes was needed before forming up and marching to the local shopping area. The march was exactly the length of “Emblem of The Army”. The Band then gave an open air concert for the local shoppers to help the Corps raise the profile of the Army in the town.

The march back was a little longer – 3 marches longer as it transpired – but it gave us chance to show “the Army” was in town.

After some food and time to relax the Band walked on to the stage in front of a packed hall. Every single chair in the building had been found and taken in to the hall to seat everyone and there were still people standing at the back.

The band performed it’s Proms Programme which, in 2017 was Best of British” followed by the traditional Last Night of The Proms music. As the programme progressed the audience became more relaxed and settled in to the mood and many pieces were well received with cheering and woops of delight.

Vocal Soloist Hazel Launn (Bedford Congress Hall) complimented the programme with some well chosen and beautifully sung solos and joined the Band to present Rule Britannia.

A very worthwhile and fruitful day for the Band and Gainsborough Corps despite the long distance we travelled.
