Band at Sale

27.04.2013

Birmingham Citadel Band travelled to Sale Salvation Army in Manchester for a Saturday night Festival on 20 April. Following a slightly jerky journey to Manchester due to a dodgy clutch on the Coach, we arrived to a warm welcome and a hearty tea.

After a short rehearsal and getting ready, the Band stepped out to a capacity audience from all over Manchester and Cheshire. The Band featured many of their favourite numbers but also played one of the most well known and most challenging pieces of music, Eric Ball’s “Resurgam”.

The Band featured 4 soloists, D/BM Mark Sharman(Trombone) and Neil Blessett (Tenor Horn) played beautiful melodies in the first half and after the interval David Taylor (Euphonium) amazed the listeners with his rendition of “Euphony”. Edward Dixon (Eb Bass) then brought the house down with his version of “Bare Necessities” despite Bandmaster Lamplough suffering from a “wardrobe malfunction” during the solo.

The evening was a great success, not only for the Band, but also for Sale Corps who were rewarded with a large audience to listen to the Band. The journey home was no less eventful, even though the Coach behaved itself, when we got to Cannock the M6 was closed, so a detour round North Birmingham concluded the day.
