Youth Band visit Birmingham Citadel

17.07.2017

On the weekend of July 15th and 16th the West Midlands Divisional Youth Band visited Birmingham Citadel. The Band, led by Mark Sharman, helped out the Corps on Saturday by playing in Birmingham City Centre as part of our Big Collection fund raising day alongside some of the Corps sections, dodging the rain.

On Sunday the Youth Band led the meetings with Stuart Farmer and Corinne Seabridge providing teaching and food for thought with the theme from Creation to Salvation. The Singing Company and Youth Band helped worship with well chosen music.

The band then stayed at the hall for a Roast Dinner and then spent some time together, followed by our 4pm outdoor meeting in the Bullring, the Songsters and Birmingham Citadel Band joined the Youth Band, along with some members of the corps who were talking to those who stopped to look and listen.

We then marched back to our building with a massed band providing the music.

After a short break we continued in to our evening worship with lots of lively music from the Youth Band, Songsters and YP Band and a message from DYS Laura Kingscott. At the end of the meeting we were told that Mark Sharman was stepping down as Bandmaster after 7 years in the role. His involvement in the band started in 1988 when he joined to play then worked as a Deputy Bandmaster before taking the Baton full time. Mark has nurtured the members of the band and he will be missed but he has left the band in a great place and it’s obvious the band members have a lot of respect for him.

It was a great day and we thank the Youth Band for joining in with our activities over the weekend, and for the ministry from the band on Sunday.
