Breakthru Delights at Lord Mayor’s Show

31.05.2013

Bank Holiday Monday dawned dry and bright to everyone’s relief who were involved with the Birmingham Lord Mayor’s Show, as last year was very very wet.

The team from Birmingham Citadel arrived in Victoria Square and assembled the Salvation Army Tent along side a tent reserved for our merchandise.

During the day, the team gave out hot drinks, water, information on the work done by the Lifehouse and advise. They had been invited to attend as they are one of the Lord Mayors Charities for this year.

Patch from the Salvation Army children’s magazine Kids Alive appeared together with his huge bone! He was very popular and not only with the children, he was a brilliant mover and soon everyone was dancing to some upbeat Christian music.

Certain members of the Breakthru group were highly delighted that right opposite ours stands were the Fire Brigade with vehicles and equipment on display. Very soon a young lady was wearing the whole uniform of a fireman, she also got a turn in the Fire Engine and received a fire mans lift!  In return the firemen were very happy to join in the dancing with Patch and Breakthru.

The Lord Mayor arrived and was interested in what we were doing, having met Breakthru and Patch.

There were many conversations with the hundreds of people that passed by during the day. There was much fun had by the team, they were made up from many different parts of our church family, working together to ensure that people know that The Salvation Army as a church, provider of social care and community work is hard at work in Birmingham.

The message that Jesus Christ is just waiting to receive men, women and children as his own and all they have to do is acknowledge him as their Saviour and Lord.  Whatever the message or image the people took away from the contact they had with us, it’s our prayer that they will seek to know more about the personal heavenly father that we love and serve.
